TONY MARSHALL (real name Charles Willcox)
TONY MARSHALL, who co-starred in I WAS A TEENAGE WEREWOLF, was born Charles
Willcox on an Amish farm in Lancaster, Pennsylvania in 1933. He ran off to
join the Clyde Beatty Circus and spent time with a professional wrestler
troupe, playing the shill they picked out of the audience. He became a
baby-faced wrestling hero but was attacked and stabbed in the chest by
fans in Mexico. After recovering, he ended up a stuntman on TV's "You
Asked For It." Utilizing his team-driving experience he worked on a
number of westerns, specializing in crashing wagons. Willcox was
accidentally stabbed in the jaw on a pirate picture and lost an eye.
He later lost a hand due to a firearm accident, ending his stunt career.
Willcox doubled Richard Burton in THE RAINS OF RANCHIPUR (1955) and James
Dean in REBEL WITHOUT A CAUSE (1955) and GIANT (1956). He also doubled
for Humphrey Bogart and acted under the stage name of Tony Marshall. An
honorary member of the Stuntmen's Association, Willcox worked on JOHNNY
GUITAR (1954), I WAS A TEENAGE WEREWOLF as Tony Marshall (1957), SPEED
CRAZY (1959), BEN-HUR (1959) and SPARTACUS (1960).
Chuck's interest in Native American jewelry and art developed into a thriving
business and he began operating an Indian Trading Post in Santa Monica.
Willcox claims to have sold artifacts and design pieces to some of the leading
style-makers of the day - a clientele that ranged from rock stars to movie legends.
